Poetry Inspiration—The Rainy Day

The day is cold, and dark, and dreary;
It rains, and the wind is never weary;
The vine still clings to the moldering wall,
But at every gust the dead leaves fall,
And the day is dark and dreary.

My life is cold, and dark, and dreary;
It rains, and the wind is never weary;
My thoughts still cling to the moldering Past,
But the hopes of youth fall thick in the blast
And the days are dark and dreary.

Be still, sad heart! and cease repining;
Behind the clouds is the sun still shining;
Thy fate is the common fate of all,
Into each life some rain must fall,
Some days must be dark and dreary.

Why You Should Definitely Go Whitewater Rafting

“Forward one!” Muppet shouted as we approached a bulge of water coursing over a submerged rock. I had no time to look back at our river guide, but as our raft slipped expertly between two rocks to land right in the swirling water below, I realized just how technical his job was. As a part of this raft’s crew for a day, it was my job to paddle exactly when and where he told me to. Muppet, as he introduced himself, had a range of commands he taught us including forward strokes, back strokes, and “Lean in,” which meant if you don’t want to fall out, crouch towards the middle of the raft. Say Goodbye to Excuses

Hey there!

Let’s stop to take a deep breath. The school year is over! As you may have noticed, I haven’t posted in about… 2 months 😦

My life got crazier than it ever has before during the last stretch of the semester, but it ended well. I survived. And now it’s summer! Continue reading “Say Goodbye to Excuses”

Confusion

I thought I had my life plan all worked out. Go to college, get a Creative Writing degree with something helpful as a minor, get married, so on and so forth. And so far, it’s working great. I love college, I love writing (obviously). Except having a plan forces me to make some sort of commitment to actually achieving these things, like my happiness is tied to each one of these steps because at one point I thought it was a good idea.

But what if I change my mind? and I might be changing my mind… Continue reading “Confusion”

Review–A Visit From The Goon Squad

Wow.

I just finished this book, assigned for my Creative Writing class, and I am having a little trouble living in the real world now.

This book is such a complex myriad of characters, relationships, points of view, tenses, and time periods, and they are all jumbled up so the reader is confused at the beginning of each chapter. But that’s how life is. Continue reading “Review–A Visit From The Goon Squad”

Day 4–10 Interesting Things

Ten interesting things about me:

1.I have known for my whole life that I will someday write a book. The subject and genre have yet to be determined.

  1. My thumbs are not the same length. Continue reading “Day 4–10 Interesting Things”

Day 3–The Best Compliment

Today’s prompt: “What is the best compliment you’ve received?”

Someone told me recently that I have good leadership qualities and a strong drive. This comment was significant to me because I don’t consider myself to be a leader figure. I don’t enjoy speaking in front of lots of people, I don’t enjoy being in charge or telling people what to do, and I’m not skilled at mediating conflicts. Continue reading “Day 3–The Best Compliment”

Day 2–My Earliest Memory

I remember a plaid pink swimsuit. It was a one piece with ruffles on the stomach. I remember a sun hat, but I can’t picture what color it was. I remember a windy beach morning, padding across the sand on stubby toddler legs. I think it was California, but it could have been any stretch of sand on any coastline. I remember chasing a flock of birds, all black feathers and wings and beaks and claws. They swarmed upwards in great gusts as if some giant blew them from their perches.
