“Otherside” by Red Hot Chili Peppers

What band do you listen to if you want a good, classic feel with upbeat music but deep lyrics and a great summertime sound?

Red Hot Chili Peppers. Duh. And they have awesome guitar skills which is a seriously underappreciated quality in these times.

I love this band, and I love this song. Enjoy!

Musical Inspiration–A Long December

I thought this song was fitting for the first day of the new year!

“It’s been a long December, and there’s reason to believe maybe this year will be better than the last.”

This lovely song is by Counting Crows.

Musical Inspiration–Rush

This, my friends, is Spirit of the Radio. I thought it was funny that one day I woke up to my clock radio alarm playing this song, and the lyrics say, “Begin the day with a friendly voice, a companion unobtrusive…”

Enjoy 🙂

Musical Inspiration–Imogen Heap

This song is so inspiring to me. The range of things that the human voice can do is amazing. This song is worth listening to. Hide and Seek by Imogen Heap

The video is a little strange, but it’s from 2009 🙂

Enjoy!

Musical Inspiration–If It Makes You Happy

This song is a great reminder for all of us: if it makes you happy, it can’t be that bad!

Thanks, Sheryl Crow, for singing about the simple truths of life.

Happy listening 🙂

Musical Inspiration–Heaven

Classic rock is perhaps my favorite overall genre of music. There is so much variety! Here’s a love ballad that I enjoy. Even though it’s a slower song, it still keeps its epic rock quality with striking chords and piano accompaniment. Thank you, Bryan Adams, for our inspiration today. Enjoy!

What’s your favorite classic rock song?

Musical Inspiration–Evelyn

I discovered a unique podcast called Bands Under the Radar. They feature bands that are, well, under the radar. There are so many songs on the last episode that I loved, but this one stood out because of this man’s haunting voice. Andrew Duhon is very talented and I can’t wait to see what else he has in store! Give it a listen 🙂

Restringing My Guitar

I recently bought a beautiful Framus guitar and started learning to play. This little firecracker cost me $65 at a pawn shop and the case was only $15! It has one surface crack, but it has the Dad Seal of Approval (and he’s a very talented musician, so his is a valued opinion). It has a clear sound and it’s a little bit smaller than a normal-sized guitar, so it fits my hands and my lap nicely 🙂

I decided a set of new strings might improve the sound quality and playing experience, so I recruited my dad to teach me how.

Here’s everything you need to restring a guitar:  Continue reading “Restringing My Guitar”
